General Questions
Yes, absolutely! Your first session is completely free with no obligation. Just turn up in comfortable workout clothes and experience what we're all about. It's a great way to see if our classes are right for you or your child before committing.
For your first free session, just wear comfortable workout clothes - a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms or shorts are perfect. Once you join, we'll provide information about purchasing a gi (martial arts uniform).
No equipment is needed for your first session - we provide everything! As you progress, you may want to purchase your own sparring gear and uniform, but we'll guide you through this when the time comes.
We teach all ages! Our Dots classes are for children aged 2-3, we have children's classes from age 4 upwards, teen classes, adult classes, and our LIFE classes for seniors. Everyone is welcome at Kazen Kai.
We recommend training at least twice a week for best results, but many of our members train 3-4 times per week. You can attend as many classes as your membership allows. Consistency is key to progressing in martial arts.
While you're welcome to observe, we encourage you to try a free session instead! There's no better way to experience our classes than by actually participating. You'll get a real feel for the training, meet the instructors, and see if it's right for you.
About Our Classes
Each martial art has its unique focus: Karate emphasizes striking techniques, discipline, and traditional forms; Kickboxing combines boxing and kicking for high-intensity fitness; Taekwondo focuses on dynamic kicking techniques and flexibility; Jiu-Jitsu specializes in ground fighting and grappling. All build confidence, fitness, and self-defense skills in different ways.
Yes! Many of our students train in multiple disciplines. This cross-training helps develop well-rounded skills and keeps training exciting. We offer flexible memberships that allow access to different classes.
LIFE classes are specially designed for seniors and older adults who want to stay active, social, and healthy. These classes focus on gentle exercise, balance, flexibility, and coordination in a supportive, fun environment. No previous martial arts experience needed!
Dots classes are our play-based martial arts program for children aged 2-3. Through fun activities and games, we help develop early motor skills, listening abilities, confidence, and social interaction - all while introducing basic martial arts concepts.
Yes! We have inclusive, adaptable classes specifically designed for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Our experienced instructors create a supportive environment that builds confidence, coordination, and social skills at each child's own pace.
Private lessons offer one-on-one instruction tailored to your specific goals. They're perfect for accelerating progress, preparing for gradings or competitions, or focusing on particular techniques. Private lessons can be booked in addition to regular classes.

We offer flexible membership options to suit different needs and budgets. Remember, your first session is free! After that, we have monthly memberships with different tiers based on how often you want to train. Check our Pricing page for full details or contact us for personalized recommendations.
We require notice before the 1st of each month. There's no minimum contract period - you can cancel anytime with proper notice. We also offer membership freezes if you need to take a temporary break.
Yes! If you need to take a break due to injury, holidays, or other commitments, you can freeze your membership. Contact us to discuss your specific situation and we'll work with you.
Progress & Training
This varies by individual and how frequently you train. Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination - you'll develop valuable skills and confidence at every stage.
Gradings are assessments where you demonstrate your skills to progress to the next belt level. We hold regular grading sessions throughout the year. Your instructor will let you know when you're ready to grade. There's a small grading fee to cover administration and certificates.
Absolutely! We have a Competition Squad for members interested in competing at local, national, and international levels. Competition is optional but offers great opportunities to test your skills, gain experience, and represent Kazen Kai.
Great! We welcome students with previous experience. Bring information about your previous training and belt level. We'll assess your current level and help you continue your martial arts journey with us.
Safety & Qualifications
Yes! Safety is our top priority. All classes are supervised by qualified, DBS-checked instructors. We teach proper techniques, use appropriate protective equipment, and maintain controlled environments. Martial arts actually helps children develop better body awareness and coordination, reducing injury risk in other activities.
All our instructors are highly qualified with recognized martial arts certifications, first aid training, and enhanced DBS checks. Many have competed at national and international levels and have years of teaching experience.
Yes, we have full public liability insurance. Additionally, all members are covered by our club insurance during classes and club events.
Parents' Questions
Yes! Parents are welcome to watch, especially during the first few sessions. We have viewing areas at our venues. Some parents prefer to drop off and pick up, while others enjoy watching their children progress.
No - quite the opposite! Martial arts teaches discipline, respect, and self-control. Students learn when it's appropriate to use their skills (self-defense only) and develop better emotional regulation. Many parents report their children become calmer and more focused through training.
Martial arts is excellent for building confidence! We create a supportive environment where every achievement is celebrated. Children develop self-belief through learning new skills, setting and achieving goals, and being part of a positive community.
